This was an early rendering experiment with POVRay. The book is a simple union of rectangaloids with a noise function applied to the surface normal for the cover texture. The pages have an elongated striped texture. The water is a plane with sinusoidal functions on the normal.  The book title is "Motion Planning" by my Ph.D. thesis advisor Jean-Claude Latombe.
